Our Vice Moderator 

Rev. Dr. Sonny Bridges 

Rev. Dr. Sonny Bridges was born to the union of the late Deacon Julius and the late Corine Bridges in Monticello, Mississippi. He is the eighth of thirteen children. He is married to the former Janice Bryant and the Lord has blessed them with three sons, two daughters, two daughters-in-law and twelve grandchildren.

 

Rev. Bridges acknowledged his calling in early May 1977 while he was a member of St. John’s Baptist Church in Oceanside, California. He was licensed immediately by the Rev. Dr. Harrison Fletcher.

 

Throughout his years in ministry he served in the following capacities: Youth Minister, St. John Baptist Church, Oceanside, California, Associate Minister of the United Baptist Church, Okinawa, Japan (where he was ordained January 14, 1979 under the Pastorate of Rev. L. F. Stephenson); Associate Minister Union Baptist Church Albany, Georgia, Youth Pastor of New Testament Baptist Church Albany, Georgia, Youth Pastor of Mt. Airy Baptist Church Newton, Georgia and Pastor of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church Okinawa, Japan from 1982-1986.

 

Rev. Bridges was transferred to Columbia, South Carolina where he became an Associate Minister at Temple of Zion Baptist Church, Columbia, SC and later became Pastor of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Hopkins, SC for 9 years. After 9 years he resigned and was called to Pastor Unity Missionary Baptist Church Hopkins, SC for 13 years.

 

 Rev. Bridges graduated from Monticello High School, MS then he continued his education in Jacksonville, NC Community College, Chapman University, San Diego, California, Columbia International University when he successfully mastered and graduated without an earned Bachelor’s Degree, He earned his Doctor of Theology and Honoree Degree in Christian Education from the International School of Religion in Richmond, Virginia.

 

Rev. Bridges served in the United States Marine Corps and retired after 21 years. Before Rev. Bridges accepted his pastoralship in Conway, SC he was employed as an educator in Columbia, SC at Lake View and Grandby Education Center as a special education teacher thirteen year. He was employed as a mentor in Behavior Management at the Columbia Children Home.

 

Pastor Bridges has served in the following capacities: he was President of the Churches Union, President of the Lower Richland Ministerial Alliance, Treasury of the Wateree Baptist Association Upper Division, Instructor of the Ministerial Division, Pass Moderator of the Churches Union of the Kingston Lake Baptist Association, Past Dean of the Sunday School Congress of Christian Education, President of the Sunday School Congress of Christian Education, Kingston Lake Association and Instructor in the S. C. State Congress of Christian Education

 

Rev. Bridges presently serves as the Vice Moderator Kingston Lake Missionary Baptist Association.

 

Rev. Bridges is the Pastor of Bethlehem #1 Missionary Baptist Church, Conway, SC. He is a revivalist and preacher who has preached extensively throughout the United States.

 

Rev. Bridges Motto is “SERVING THE LORD WILL PAY OFF AFTER WHILE” His favorite Scripture is: Revelation 22:12.
